Although Paris is known as the most romantic city in the world, it is not just for lovers alone. With the abundance of shops, specialty stores and the presence of the most famous designers in the world, Paris has also become a place for shopaholics.

In Paris, there are three major flea markets which are located in Porte de Clignancourt (the Saint Ouen flea market), Porte de Vances and Porte de Montreuil, are every budget shopper’s haven. Almost everything you ever need and want can be found here, but in order to get the best bargains, you must be there before 5am or at the latest 6 am before the others start arriving.

The big department stores in the city are sure to make you shop till you drop — literally. Take your time around Printemps and Galeries Lafayette, and the five-storey shopping center La Samaritaine in Les Halles. You should also visit Le Bon Marche, a unique shopping complex that has a roof garden and a food court.

For stylish designer clothes, you just have to visit Chanel, Herme, Vuitton and Dior. There are also Cartier, Piaget and Chaumet if you are looking for some nice pieces of jewelry.

Puces is a famous antique store selling not just Louis IV furniture but vintage jewelry, mirrors, silver items, and so on. It’s definitely the place you have to go to first if you are looking for some great antique pieces.

A book lover? Unfortunately, books especially foreign books are quite pricey. However, you may want to take a look at the les bouquinistes — it’s a row of book stalls that overlooks the Seine river or Brentano’s and Shakespeare & Co.

Finally, you just can’t leave Paris without a bottle of perfume because Paris is known for its fine perfumes, too, along with many other things. There are a number of perfumeries in the city where you can have an absolute great time going over all the scents; interestingly, you can even have a scent custom made just for you.

There is no better place to go shopping than in Paris.
